The Lost Dhow
A Discovery from the Maritime Silk Route
Origin Studios’ task was twofold: to design an exhibition about the ninth-century cargo ship and its twentieth-century discovery, and to create a space to display the commercial cargo and treasures. Origin designed a central entranceway based on the ship’s size and shape, flanked by graphic banners with historical context, leading visitors to the exhibition’s most valuable artifacts. From there, visitors could explore hundreds of Tang Dynasty ceramics that formed the bulk of the cargo. The design highlighted the beauty and significance of the objects while providing deep historical and material context. Origin Studios collaborated with the Aga Khan Museum staff and guest curator John Vollmer from schematic design through final installation.
