Renaissance ROM

Permanent Galleries

Origin Studios collaborated on the interpretive planning, concept development, and detailed design for the Renaissance ROM project. The design language and communication strategy bridged the Royal Ontario Museum’s heritage galleries with the more contemporary Libeskind expansion. Placing objects at the forefront, unencumbered by lengthy interpretation or design, highlighted the tactile and visual qualities of each object, balancing the didactic and aesthetic experience.

Working with Haley Sharpe Design (Leicester, UK) and the ROM’s curatorial and conservation teams, Origin Studios developed ethnographic, decorative arts and natural history displays. These physical structures were versatile enough to support everything from a woolly mammoth to the tiniest Chinese carving, while the cohesive visual language united old and new architecture.
