Here, We Made a Home
The Rooms, Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier cultural institution, brings together the Provincial Archives, Art Gallery, and Museum to share the province’s rich cultural identity with local and global audiences. In 2011, Origin Studios collaborated with The Rooms’ curatorial team on a new permanent exhibition exploring the peoples of Newfoundland and Labrador from the late 1700s to today.
The exhibition examines the lives and cultures of the Innu, Inuit, Mi’kmaq, and the people of NunatuKavut, along with descendants of European settlers. Beyond stories of place and history, it highlights key events, individuals, and traditions that have shaped the province. The exhibition design draws inspiration from local plank-style architecture to capture the region’s texture and spirit. The result is an environment that feels rugged, colourful, and welcoming much like the people of Newfoundland and Labrador themselves.
