Summoning Animal Protection for Chinese Children
Origin Studios created Watched by Heaven, Tied to Earth: Summoning Animal Protection for Chinese Children, completing the exhibition design, interior space planning, furniture and cabinetry design, graphic design, artifact placement, and design styling. The exhibition design was inspired by ornate elements featured on many of the shoes, such as animal talismans that offered the wearer protection. Collaborating with the curator and cultural consultants, Origin Studios developed graphics and textures from an array of traditions within Chinese history. The resulting visual language honoured Daoism, traditional garden design, feng shui, Buddhism, the Chinese animal zodiac, and Chinese vernacular design and architecture. The exhibition’s look and feel combined elements from Chinese spiritual traditions with the festivity of cultural celebrations.
